TAKEAWAY: Festival of Self-Service Media

TAKEAWAY: Festival of Self-Service Media
DANA Centre, Science Museum, March 29-31, 2006.

A silent revolution is taking place. More and more people are transforming themselves from media consumers to producers, using the new tools, software and technologies at their disposal. From the expanding realm of free and open source software (FOSS), to peer-to-peer (P2P) distribution and 'pervasive' mobile and locative technologies, the possibilities exist as never before to create and disseminate our own media experiences.

TAKEAWAY, the Festival of Self-Service Media, is here to help you take part in the revolution, and to understand what it's all about. Learn how to make your own online journal, blog, live stream, or wiki in our morning workshops. Talk to those who are making the tools and those who are finding new and innovative ways to make use of them. Discuss the implications of 'free' and P2P culture, changes in way we make culture and art, and how we will be able to live, and learn, in the coming media environment.

What can you take away from TAKEAWAY Festival? This 3-day festival combines hands-on workshops, exhibitions, lectures and discussions.

Breakfest/Workshops - Each morning, we'll focus on knowledge that will help you make your own way in new media: create a blog, videolog or podcast; learn how to install and use Free operating systems opening up a whole world of Free Software; explore strategies for distributing and marketing your work; and test out ways of getting paid for it.

Exhibition - work by artists, designers, developers, students, alumni, staff and friends and associates of Ravensbourne MA Postgraduate Studies

Tea Time Talks - Lectures and panel discussions introduce concepts of Free Software, Open Source and the Peer-to-Peer approach in interactive design, learning and teaching.
