RFID Proximity Cards – Attached Great Importance for Contactless Payment and Access Control
Currently, RFID proximity cards and mobile E-commerce have entered into every walk of life, along with the booming of Internet and the rapid advancement of RFID tech - the wireless communication technology. In virtue of the outstanding performance in contactless data communication, RFID proximity cards have been attached great importance by lots of enterprises. So aiming at satisfying the ever-increasing demand, as the leading professional RFID products developer and manufacturer, DAILY RFID has newly released a series of RFID proximity cards that are specially designed for contactless payment system and access control applications.
Technically speaking, RFID proximity card is a smart card powered by radio frequency signals from RFID reader device, and it can be read without inserting it into a reader, all of which makes the card has a limited range and must be held close to the reader unit. When the RFID proximity card is placed within reading range of a reader, the reader usually produces a “beep” or other sound to indicate the card has been identified. Working on the frequency of 13.56MHz, the proximity cards typically have a range of 5cm~10cm for reading, and they are often covered by the ISO/IEC 14443 protocol that defines two types of card (“A” and “B”, with diverse communication standards). Taking 13.56MHz RFID proximity card MF0 IC U1 for example, this Mifare Ultralight passive smart contactless card is connected to a coil with a few turns and then embedded into plastic. With contactless data transmission and supply energy, this card needs no battery and is able to successfully used for contactless payment in transport applications.
In comparison with traditional identification means, RFID proximity cards need no touch, no visual optics, and even no human intervention to complete information inputting and processing, which is convenient and fast to operate. Mainly planned for payment, library cards, public transit fare cards, e-passport and keycards for access control in office buildings, these RFID proximity cards contain integrated chips that comply with ISO 14443 protocols. Additionally, RFID tags can be widely applied into production, logistics, transportation, medical, anti-counterfeiting, tracking and asset management fields, all of which require mass data collection and processing.
