Headbangers start writting your letters to Santa Claus,
Researchers from CSIRO have developed a wearable gadget called WIS (Wearable instrument shirt), it works by recognising and interpreting arm movements and relaying this wirelessly to a computer for audio generation.
Textiles and Fibre Technology engineer of CSIRO, Dr Richard Helmer explains the device: “It’s an easy-to-use, virtual instrument that allows real-time music making – even by players without significant musical or computing skills. It allows you to jump around and the sound generated is just like an original mp3.â€
Almost every latest generation computers already have DIY music softwares, like apple's garage band, pre-installed, that demands the user to use the computer itself or a MIDI keyboard to create your own songs. Even though the wearable shirt seems to have a limited possibilities of sound generation compared to a real instrument, you're now adding intuitive physical expressions to that experience rather than making "mouse-clicking" music. That may be a cheaper and helpfull way of teaching music for beginers.
