From Austria's Fritzl - Sex and the City, why and how, then and now to Abu Ghraib prison.

Many Austrians are now engaged in what they know best, 1st trading rumour, 2nd re-purposing sarcastically the story by wine and beer, or 3th officially to interpret the story away as an unpleasant effect of there daily professional life. Out of this one remarkable sentence, the outcry of chancellor Gusenbauer, "We will not allow, that Austria and all Austrians, are imprisoned by one criminal and lone brutal offender". As the name Austria hits continuously for weeks, pole positions in the global media market, fear spreads that this could have bad impact on the tourist market. But on other hand, every citizen on the planet should know by now, the distinctive difference between Austria and Australia. Global Media, Global Tourism, yes, the Fritzl saga is feeding the under saturated media world wide, better than any tourist marketing agency could ever initiate. Some media professionals may say, bad publicity is better than no publicity.

Austria never processed and cleared the dark past, where it was a core player in the nazi supply chain of human resources. I know, others like Germany, did it just cosmetically with some museums, centres with archives and dedicated places. Substantial research why and how, then and now, never reached the the public domain. For shore, several elite academics did special case investigations and there outcomes are shelved in one of the many storerooms of history, but never translated or decoded into the mainstream.

The consensus most in Europe agree to, let move on, let the past behind and forgive the wrongdoers. Here I am coming back to Mr.Fritzl, (electrical engineer), to the portrays which landed on tabloids main pages, Mr. Fritzl looks like a typical Austrian cartoon figure, which cartoonist Manfred Deix draws now for ages. The whole theatrical drama which Mr.Fritzl was building up, spring out of the deepest psycho scenario Sigmund Freud ( theories of the unconscious mind and the defense mechanism of repression) - Austrian, was laying out. Also Mr. Priklopil (communications technician) the evil master of Natascha Kampusch was known as, simple, reliable, quiet, clean and doing his job.

Nothing what residents of the small bourgeois town could sense and recognise, undercover was the hell, the hell the Catholic church try to sell to them every Sunday. I have to admit that I did not hear, that neither Fritzl or Priklopil attended church, but the child molesters in the Austrian Catholic church, have been similarly processed like the non clerical ones, the sex orgies quietly faded into the bag ground. In the Natascha Kampusch case the "Sex and the City" rumour in Viennese pubs says, that high ranking Police and Politicians have been enjoying SM parties with here. Why Natascha does not comment, just here media and legal advisers know. As the Marc Dutroux case (unemployed electrician, imprisoned in 1996 in Belgium) showed, the network of involved officials was never discovered and all just faded away in the reorganisation of Belgium's law enforcement agencies.

The interplay between clerical and political establishment related to execution of authority in Austria, has never been seriously questioned. It swopped easy from aristocratic, to nazi and then to post war establishment, safeguarding values, interest and property. Only the aristocratic key players like the Habsburger's have been stripped from there rights and properties in Austria, The posh social democrats today, called the new aristocrats are interwoven in a net of corruption and misuse of power. I am not saying that other political parties which share power in Austria, like the OVP are in better shape, but if you try to context these Austrian layers, you understand why a populist like Joerg Haider can surface, former FPO, now BZO.

In the cultural domain, you may understand why (from 1960 and 1971) the Viennese Actionism came up, mainly driven by Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Otto Muehl and Hermann Nietsch, all documented by Kurt Kren.

This important Austrian art has been until today neglected by the Austrian establishment and marginally recognised by the cultural administration. This was the only significant try and error process reflecting the Austrian, Clerical, Nazi and conservative past. Even to credit it higher, these handful of Austrian artist, have been the only ones in Europe which had the courage and bravery to hold up an uncensored mirror into the face of the post war generation, right in time and space.

What could be the quintessence of this story, in my opinion, both sides have the right to exist the conformist and the nonconformist, both have the right to appear on the world stage, without social and financial threat and discrimination. This in my understanding I could call civilised society or culture. Fritzl's are living everywhere and in everyone, world wide desires triggered by sex, domination, opp - rep - suppression, possession and the divers understanding of entertainment. What the Nazis introduced is the industrial processed demolition of the body, this has never been seriously analyzed and retro engineered. The human / body became a commodity and is part of the shopping experience. The information and the images from the concentration camps, infected our minds. There existence did not disappear, it was just rebranded and repackaged, the industrialization continued in good old tradition, to produce and destroy no matter if someone needs it or asks for (" we will create the demand"). The female version of Fritzl was poor Army Pfc. Lynndie England and here male colleagues, in Abu Ghraib prison (Arabic: سجن أبو غريب; ), a dungeon maintained by the US army in sexual humiliation and savage beatings. To say it clearly to every soldier, you have chosen your job and you can allow or stop abuse, it is a question of civil courage to say no and stop the madness.

England's relatives have said she was a "paper pusher" in Iraq who processed inmates and only went to the prison to visit friends who worked there. England was described as a kind young woman who loves athletics and the outdoors and is unafraid to speak her mind. She joined the Army Reserve as a high school junior to earn money for college."I just wanted to make sure you guys knew she was a human being," a realtive told reporters.

Strasshof was the site of a concentration camp where 21,000 Hungarian Jews were deported in 1944. Most of these Jews, including children and the elderly, survived due to an agreement between the Aid and Rescue Committee of Budapest and Adolf Eichmann. During World War II, Amstetten was a seat of two sub-camps of the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp.
